Anotherealm Lineup for 2006
It's gonna be a lot easier this year, I said. I only gotta pick 12 stories . . . one per month, I said. No more worrying about missing a masterpiece or elevating a lesser tale--just pick the 12 strongest stories that pass my desk
I said.
And, hooo boy, was I ever wrong. I think this year's selection process was the toughest I've experienced so far. The vast majority of the stories I received this year were good--VERY good; so good, in fact, that I wish we could publish three, four, five times the baker's dozen plus one I've chosen. Unfortunately, anotherealm's pockets couldn't stand such a picking, so I've whittled and weeded a fine crop of prose to 14 (note: even I couldn't get it down to 12). Here they are in the order I plan them to appear:
January
Dancing With A Blind Girl
Troy Seate
February
Seventh Sense
Ahmed A. Khan
March
The Queen Who Argued Too Much
Pete Butler
April
A Brief History Of Fido?s War
Michael R. Warren
May
To Hell And Back
Stephen D. Rogers
June
Tulpa
L. J. Holman
EDITOR'S BIRTHDAY EXTRA
To rain in Hell
Douglas W. Clark
July
And She Walked
Tyler Hayes
August
Finding the Doorway
Mark Allan Gunnells
September
The Filial Daughter
David Wright
October
The Fortune Teller
Cynthia M. Saracco
EDITOR'S HALLOWEEN EXTRA
The Third Secret
Larry Gaffney
November
Too Much Sky
W. J. Sander
EDITOR'S EXTRA
Full Moon Over Greyhund
by Jean M. Goldstrom
December
Merely Players
Blair Dalton
Each one of these tales struck a chord with me. Some made me laugh, some made me think, all made me proud to publish them. Congratulations to the authors and encouragement to those who just missed the cut. Thanks to all for submitting and for making anotherealm "the best e-zine on the Web."
