Acses: Book price search engine. Compares offers from over 20 online shops and finds the best prices on the Net.

AddALL: Recommended. "book search and price comparison."

African-American Lit Book Club: Seems obvious.

All Romance Ebooks: An online bookstore.

Amazon.com: Not recommended. An online bookstore.

Writers may find Estimating How Many Books Sold by Amazon to be of interest.
Removed all of the ebooks from their site. One author encountered a message meant for the author/publisher of the author's book asking for whoever owned the digital rights to contact Amazon.com to see about getting it listed as an ebook. This is not a good sign of what may be occurring.
P&E has written to Amazon asking for information. If anything is learned, we'll post it.
3/28/08: Amazon.com, you must be kidding. Recently, Amazon.com notified PublishAmerica (PA) that it wants to print all of PA's books using Amazon's own inhouse presses. Many writers are aware that PublishAmerica and Preditors & Editors (P&E) under normal circumstances are two forces best not mixed in the same room. These, however, are not normal circumstances. While P&E would not be saddened at seeing PA put out of business, P&E views this action by Amazon as unreasonable and unacceptable not only for PublishAmerica, but because it would set a dangerous precedent for other print-on-demand publishers and their printers who could be forced out of business.
3/29/08: Amazon.com, Part Two. Reports are now coming in from other publishers, large and small, that Amazon has sent them the same ultimatum and removed the buy buttons from their books that are retailed on Amazon. P&E expects this to end up in court because too many publishers are being squeezed by the economic pressures this Amazon action will create.
3/31/08: Amazon.com responds. While P&E understands what they're doing, we do not agree with how they're implementing it. Furthermore, some of their logic is fatally flawed. There are no fuel savings since the paper for printing those POD books still has to be shipped to Amazon's site.
4/6/08: Author's Guild speaks out against Amazon's ultimatum to publishers using POD.
4/7/08: The American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) condemns Amazon's actions.
4/11/08: Washington State Attorney General's office contacts Amazon concerning Amazon's recent ultimatum to print-on-demand publishers.

Buy Books on the web: An independent online bookstore featuring primarily books from Infinity Publishing.

Novel Idea Bookstores ®, A: Charges fee. Not recommended. A startup bookstore chain whose intent appears to be for the purpose of giving self-published authors a store willing to sell their books.

On Q: This site features only self-published books. On Q has one "self-published only" bookstore already operating in Lakeside, AZ, a busy tourist area and millionnaire hangout. Three more On Q stores will open in 1998--in Tucson, Phoenix, and Denver. Long range plans are for ten stores operating by the year 2000 in targeted cities nationwide, and many more to come. Site is expected to move to a new web address soon.

ONCE UPON A CRIME: The online site of a Minneapolis bookstore that carries crime novels.

Online Christian Bookstore: Not recommended. An online bookstore that resembles a MLM sold by a religious organization.

Powell's Books: Recommended. New, used, out-of-print, and rare books.

previewbooks -- The digital bookstore with free preview downloads!: electronic book store that permits purchasers to read up to half the book free before buying.

Project Pulp: Highly recommended. A one-stop concept in ordering small press publications. Worth a visit if you like good reading.

Publisher's Direct Book Store: Not recommended. Owned by American-Book Publishing Group.

Subscription Services: Not recommended. Unbelievable as it sounds, this outfit sent an offer that looked like a bill to P&E's editor on the same day that a renewal arrived from the publisher of the same magazine offered in both.
