Drylongso will accept previously published material, but requires notification of this fact and appropriate credits. All materials should be properly cited where necessary, using complete author’s name, title of work and publication date (standard journalistic format). Do not use academic sitation formats such as MLA, APA or Chicago Style.

SITE DESCRIPTION: Increasingly, readers must employ critical thinking to make sense of what is presented for consumption daily in print, film, and television. Engaging with these media forms requires a critical thinker to consider the publisher’s political leanings, a columnist’s personal life and even the prevailing weather pattern. Drylongso eliminates the extraneous so that only the heart of the issue remains. Each update of Drylongso explores an issue from a view “between the lines.” Slightly off the beaten path, the website reveals an under-surface of what may seem ordinary current events through a combination of written, visual and audio articles.

Currently in print editions and online sources, there is a dearth of information written by and for people of color. Few if any news and entertainment print magazines cover issues of relevance to these groups; fewer still is the case of on-line multi-focus news/entertainment e-zines. Nor do such e-zines examine current mainstream political issues from a multicultural point of view. Drylongso will be a trail-blazer in filling this niche.

The editorial content of Drylongso is designed to appeal to those who consider themselves culturally aware, socially conscious and well informed. Naturally inquisitive and slightly jaded, our readers may be world-travelers, university educated or nascient intellectuals who enjoy good conversation and lively debate. Articles submitted to Drylongso should appeal to their keen perceptions and critical thinking.

SITE STRUCTURE: Drylongso consists of four content areas. The majority of articles will be written in the weblog format, e.g. commentary interspersed with relevant links with the exception of “In the First Place” articles.

“In the First Place” contains feature article(s) covering timely issues or current events. Each will supply sufficient detail to leave an average reader with an informed opinion on the subject matter. Types of articles may include essay, opinion, satire, and short fiction. Articles will contain references to other websites where the reader may obtain more information on the topic. Articles will run at a maximum 2,500 words. Maximum number of articles is two. This section is updated bi-monthly.

“Arts and Entertainment” includes writings on film, music, the performing arts, the visual arts, sports, television and books. Reviews, artists’ biography, short fiction, poetry, and interviews will comprise the writing style of this section. Standard lengths will run between 750 and 1,500 words and reviews no more than 750 words. This section is updated bi-monthly.

“Drylongso” applies extraordinary thought to ordinary issues. Articles concentrate on revealing the basic assumptions that drive many of the issues and trends in popular culture. Subject areas include the internet, relationships, technology, parenting, etc. Standard articles will run between 750 to 1,500 words. This section is updated weekly.

“Special Delivery” is an index of vendors, activities and reference links for articles covered in each issue of Drylongso. This section is updated weekly.

Send type-written, word-processed, clear copy submissions, or IBM/PC compatible computer disks containing articles saved in ascii dos text format to:

M. P. Kemp, Managing Editor,835 Oglethorpe Ave, SW, #111, Atlanta GA, 30310
