Suggested Etiquette for Contacting Agents:
1. Do not send attached files containing manuscripts to agents unless the agent's guidelines expressly state that those are acceptable within initial correspondence.
2. Email messages should be kept to a length of one or two pages unless explicitly invited to send a manuscript or sample chapters.
3. Authors should advise an agent where the agent was found listed. This helps them offer updates to any incorrect listings.
4. Do not send synopses to screenplay agents or movie production companies.
   Some listings offer legal services only:
5. Do not send queries or submissions to legal services unless the agency specifically states it handles both literary and legal representation.

$ - Indicates verified sales to legitimate royalty-paying publishers on record.

$ - Indicates verified negotiation by an agency when the sale was made by the author.

AAR, RWA - Indicates membership in organization or recognition. Lost membership or recognition is lined out.

4/10/04: Editor's note: Latest news indicates that she was re-arrested and now faces extradition to the US.
11/26/03: Editor's note: Ms. Elisabeth von Hullessem, aka Melanie Mills, plead guilty to charges of fraud in Canada. She was sentenced to time served and remains wanted in several US localities.
11/7/03: Editor's note: It appears that Ms. Mills, aka Elisabeth von Hullessem, is alive and currently in RCMP custody in Canada.
10/10/03: Editor's note: A lack of evidence appears to contradict the posting to our bulletin board. P&E does not believe at present that Ms. Mills is dead.
6/23/03: From a posting to our former bulletin board:

Last week, during her trip to Europe due to a death in the family, Melanie 
Mills died in a fatal car accident.

Therefore, all submissions to publishers have been retracted, all events 
cancelled, and all existing publishing contracts have been reverted over to 
the individual authors. Any contracts between an author, or authors, 
revert immediately back to said authors in order that they may find 
representation elsewhere.

I'm very sorry. This has been, and still is, a very emotional time for her 
entire family and friends.

• 6/3/05: Martha Ivery was indicted on 17 counts of fraud and other deceptive conduct in the US Federal Court in Albany, NY on June 1, 2005.
• 12/05/05: Ivery pleads guilty to all counts.
• 11/29/06: Sentenced to 65 months and full restitution.

• 11/21/07: Gosh, Michele Glance Rooney must be one heck of an agent! After all, in the October 2007 archive of Literary Agent News, she's listed as being the number ten top agent for mystery novels, the number ten top agent for fantasy novels, the number eight top agent for business books, the number eight top agent for young adult novels, and the number three top agent for romance. That's just downright amazing. We didn't know she was so talented, especially without a significant track record that we know of for sales to commercial trade publishers. P&E can only speculate about the identity of the anonymous writer who operates that particular blog and wonder if she'll share her source. Looks like P&E will have to maintain a running tab on her sales just to keep up with her blazing achievements.
  If your manuscript has been sold by Michele Glance Rooney to a commercial trade publishing house, please contact P&E with the title and ISBN of your book so we can see to it that Ms. Rooney receives full credit for her work.
