WRITERS GUIDELINES

Anotherealm.com is a monthly e-zine. A new full length stories will be offered each month, on approximately the first of the month.

Right now we do three kinds of stories, Full Length, Contest and Flash Fiction. We do pay for full length stories. Contest and Flash Fiction we don't pay for.

What are we looking for? SF/F/H stories with a strong plot and good characters. Hard science fiction is always welcomed. What we don't want is stories that are pornographic in nature. Use violence beyond the plot line. Or anything that just isn't right for our audience.

      • Full length Stories:
The stories may be science fiction, fantasy or horror only. Our maximum word limit is 5,000 words. Submissions are accepted year round. However there is a "Reading Period", see below for more information. Payment for First Worldwide Electronic Rights will be US $25. All additional rights stay with the author.

      • Flash Fiction Stories:
The stories may be science fiction, fantasy or horror only. Our maximum word limit is 1,000 words. Submissions are accepted year round. We do not pay for these stories. We get first electronic and anthology rights all other copyright reverts to the author after publication.

We are not accepting flash fiction at this time. We were hacked and the clean-up is taking it's toll. We will get back to it as soon as possable but for now... We have too much to deal with. Thank you for understanding.

      • Contest Stories:
These stories are based on the contest topic. Contests run for two months. They may be science fiction, fantasy or horror only. Our maximum word limit is 1,000 words. Submissions are accepted for the first six weeks of the two months on a contest by contest basis year round. All entries that are accepted for the contest are then judged against each other with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are then announced. We do not pay for these stories but you dp get to brag if you win. We get first electronic and anthology rights all other copyright reverts to the author after publication.

The Reading Period Explained: (Full length stories only)
The reading period is when we pick the stories that will be published over the next year. We also publish a list of the stories and when they will be featured. The only way we can do this is to pick a whole years worth of stories at once. This is why we have a reading period.

So that writers are able to know how long their story will be in limbo is why we publish our reading period. Nothing is worse than waiting endlessly to find out if someone likes your story or not. Been there, done that.

All stories received by October 31 2007 will be eligible for the 2008 issue. Our reading period for the 2007 issue will end on November 30th 2007. At this time we will pick the stories for 2008 and publish our lineup.

Stories received after November 30th 2007 will be eligible for the 2009 issue. Anotherealm's submission period is year round. Writers may submit their stories at any time. Starting this year, though, we won't evaluate any story we receive after October 1 until the following year. (We may read it, but we won't judge it against the other submissions until then.)

Please note, the editing and spelling are the authors. The Flash fiction stories that meet a minimum quality level are of a 'You send it and we post it', "verbatim" variety. Due to time constraints we don't edit Flash Fiction. We don't email with acceptances or rejections, you sent it to me, keep an eye on the pages to see if it's been published. - Contest stories are judged on merit alone.

Flash Fiction and Contest Stories (Up to 1,000 words) are handled by Webbie who can't spell, edit a sentence or even dance well. So, use a spell checker and give it a bit of polish, eh? Please send electronic submissions only, to flash.fiction@anotherealm.com. Questions about flash fiction or the contests can be sent to the webmaster.
