THE NEW EARTH

by Greg Bauder © 2003

After the nurse, Roberta, left my room I began to hear a familiar voice telling me of a trip tonight when I would be rocketing around the stars of space, shimmering in the light of spiritual adventure. I was a little apprehensive and green, but my aura was bright as the moon- goddess' who was whispering a message, that I had to go on a mission for the family of Ur. My guide was Selene, the moon - goddess of a strange planet, who had recently given me my wings.

Selene, told me that I must be prepared for a journey to fulfill a prophecy on her new planet. I rose from my bed and floated through the window. I was to have faith as strong as a rock and as deep as an ocean. Faster than the reader could read this, I was there above the blue sphere, with Selene. We arrived at the new Earth in what seemed like seconds, Selene's eyes rich as diamond lights.

As I rode through the glorious clouds, I noticed the chasm below was full of gold. I felt Selene's warm platinum shine on my shoulders as the silver salmon leaped upstream far beneath my wings. Intrigued, surprised, I gaped like an oyster revealing pearly gleam, but a smooth copper hand soon covered my face. Selene doused my eyes with gold dust , and carried me off where I slept peacefully in golden beach sand. I began to dream of the people and vibrations this delicate orb emitted to my psyche, faces of primitives and rituals which did not surprise me.

Here, like in many places I'd experienced, the cow and her calf were sacred. A golden idol calf was heresy. I saw wise men doing yoga on fleeced mountain tops, communing with the gods, giving their hearts of gold in prayer. A strange human joke crossed my mind then, and I think I laughed : Neil Young had never been here. Yet, I would be the miner finding the gold , Selene whispered in my dream, as I saw a shimmer of flashlight gold on the ceiling-sky. Strange , I thought.

But gold ran through my dreams, as I even saw Pan cutting down trees for wealth. We were eager as the eagle earning Apollo's shining eye. More gold. Selene , invisible, woke me in the morning with just a hint of karma. I watched the red -eyed sunrise, its carpet unrolling like crimson velvet before the purple, majestic mountains. I had landed near a small ghetto-village, where the bronze-skinned people lived in small brown-brick huts.

My secret identity as a mental patient seemed unreal, and as I stretched my wings and floated over the palm trees between myself and the village, a person saw me and shouted: " There is the Son Of Our God who will lead us to the rich and happy land!" Others gathered, and before long they were on their knees worshipping me. I felt the power of steel in my mind, as they gave me every precious stone they had and I placed them in my yellow cloak pocket. I told them that I was going to the Plenty Land and that I would return to lead them there someday. They bowed and prayed to me, as I left feeling like a King. I had a vision of a familiar man in a suit frowning and muttering "grandiose" but I ignored him.

I rose like a super hero and crossed the waters, delightfully flying and then diving into the golden sun-beamed canyon. The river sprang crystal through the realms of Midas' and Solomon's epitomes of glory that must have permeated their dreams. The trees and flowers were lush and beautiful, from daffodils of gold to regal redwood trees. I was mesmerized and then ashamed when I realized that in my idol quest I had forgotten my love for Selene. I had lost my humility as a holy being by getting caught in a fishnet of riches and vain praises; Selene's spirit spoke from a dove resting beside me telling me to go back to helping beings not taking from them. I cried.

But , suddenly , Selene was there with me and turned into a magic copper stick and silver spade - a strong shovel - in my hands. I flew to the top of the canyon with the power of Paul Bunyan in my energetic arms. I dug all day until I had buried the canyon, except for the river curling through its base and the animals that lived there. Then, Selene was transformed into a beauty greater than Helen , and she kissed me saying that I had helped avert many wars on this planet. The gods would be pleased she said, and I felt rich in spirit. Now I understood why I had needed so much sleep on Selene's New Earth.
