Writers Contests


Basic rules for the contests are:
  • A 1000 word limit. Please include a word count
  • Clearly state this is a contest entry.
  • One entry per author, per contest.
  • Submissions are closed two weeks before the contest's end.
  • Send entries to flash.fiction@anotherealm.com.

    For November and December 2001 "Real people in Fantasy Situations." Picture George Washington crossing the Styx. Imagine Arnold Schwartzenegger actually meeting Conan. How about Ted Kennedy arguing with a Leprechaun or Santa dealing with a union strike at the North Pole . . .well, you get the idea.

    For September and October 2001"Fantasy Creatures in Real Situations." This topic was fun. Imagine a leprechaun dealing with an automated answering service; a vampire trying to get a personal loan; a werewolf being recruited to play football.

    For July and August 2001 The topic was, "Cloning".
    A story involving any aspect of cloning. Set in any time line on any planet and for any reason at all. Of course, with any species at all!

    For May and June 2001 we had the "Shadow" contest. Jean made it a little tougher by starting everyone off with this paragraph: "It started out like any typical day in suburbia. Percolators perked, toasters toasted, garage doors opened to disgorge cars heading toward the freeway. Everything was beautifully ordinary, until the shadow...."

    For April 2001, we had the "Strange Dragon" contest. Webbie started us off with only a sentence. "There is a dragon in the lobby" Writers could use it anywhere in the story they wanted to.
